Measurement of SnO Activity Coefficient in CaO–SiO2–FetO–Al2O3 Slag Saturated with Fe

Abstract It is important to clarify the behavior of elements in reaction between molten CaO–SiO 2 –Fe t O–Al O 3 slag and liquid metal during remelting Cu scrap. To estimate desirable composition for retaining Sn metal, effects basicity concentrations Fe Al on SnO activity coefficient were investigated. Molten (with optional addition) was reacted with Pb–Sn alloy a pure crucible at 1573 K 5 h while blowing CO–CO mixture. From coefficients Sn, Pb, oxides slag, which calculated using P CO / CO2 ratio heating chemically analyzed compositions their behaviors slag/metal discussed. The order reducibility PbO > >> O. Finally, it suggested from thermodynamic industrial smelting perspectives that condition favorable reduction high basicity, around 50 mass% O, low content. Graphical
